Our estates

Our family tea estates occupy some of the main hilltops in Pinling, a small village in the mountain, well known for tea farming, and one of the earliest tea plantations in Taiwan.

Hidden in the clean and misty subtropical jungle valley, Pinling has the perfect terrain, altitude, weather, soil and water for growing top grade quality tea.  The region varies in elevation from 1200 to 2500 ft and the annual rainfall varies from 3500 to 4500 mm.

With less than 5000 population, the village is thoroughly devoted to tea plantation and crafting.

With over 150 years’ tea-making craftsmanship, we manually process the raw tea through a series of sophisticated steps including hand-picking, withering, oxidation, pan-firing and drying.  Skills and knowledge have been handed down for five generations to assure the authentic linage of teaching and learning.

Driving along the narrow, steep, and twisting country roads all the way to the hilltop of our estates, you would see the Peishih River, cutting through the stunning expanse of beautiful hills and steep green slopes. That is precisely ideal for the growth of good quality tea. The temperature variation and misty climate provides the suitable environment and sufficient moisture.  Almost every morning, the fog blankets the region.

While walking through the tea gardens, you would feel yourself submerged in the tiny water droplets suspended in the air.

The region’s soil is mainly loess-like deposit, full of minerals and tiny rocks, and has suitable calcium content at 0.5%. The soil pH is between 4.5 and 5, which provides maximum nitrogen efficiency.

Pinling is located at the center of 717 km2 Taipei Water Source Domain, managed by the Water Resource Agency of Ministry of Economic Affairs.  The region’s water ecosystem is, therefore, regulated by law, constantly monitored, audited by government and research institutes for the quality of water and soil, and protected from any potential artificial and natural pollution sources.
