Description

Same as Oriental Beauty oolong, the production of Cicada honey black tea takes advantage of the insect-plant interaction.  The tea is produced from tea leaves bitten by tiny green cicada (leafhoppers). The biting process is known as salivating when the cicadas insert a small amount of saliva into the leaves.  Although the affected leaves curl downwards, there is amazingly natural honey flavor (Absolutely no artificial flavor powder added) when leaves are baked and roasted. To keep those leafhoppers, the tea plantations are required to be pesticide free.  Such eco-friendly way of farming is actually an interesting coincidence and results in one of the most beautiful black teas in the world.

There are three types of Cicada honey teas produced in Taiwan.  Our estate in Pinglin uses Chin-hsin oolong cultivar for the making of Cicada honey.  Aside from the basic natural honey aroma and taste, our tea has extra mixed rich floral scents, which is contributed by our classical and rigid tradition of Pouchong production skills.  We did receive some interesting comment that the tea tastes like top grade Darjeeling with cream and sugar already added.  Fabulous nose and palate!

Overall, the Cicada honey is a full-flavored romance, and probably the creamiest black tea with heart-melting natural honey flavor you may ever find!
