About Minyag

Minyag & Co. was founded by Rex Sun and his friends with the desire to introduce the fine teas of Formosa, as well as the aesthetics of tea enjoyment.

We supply the tea harvested from our own plantation, and also from the associated tea farmers in different regions of Taiwan.  Maintained as single-origin and single-estate, our tea is assured unblended, comes with the authentic natural flavor, and therefore can be traced back to the specific region, the farmers, the farming method, award-winning records and sometimes their own stories.

We partner with selected tea specialty shops and retailers who share the same passion, and collectively as a group, we hope to develop what we call “Friendly Circulation.”  The friendly circulation between farmers and consumers – farmers cultivate the tea with the friendly manner toward the ecosystem, and consumers who drink the tea, know the origin of that cup of tea, including the farmers, terroirs and so on, and thus not only enjoy the aroma and flavor, but also appreciate the culture, art and history.  Please find more details in the section of “Partnership”.

The production amount of Taiwanese tea is extremely small, merely 1.5% of India’s annual production and 0.8% of China.  Many tea estates are abandoned or sold for the construction of IC foundries or golf resorts.  Almost all tea plantations are owned by small family business entities or aged independent farmers.  We believe that the tea industry of Taiwan is gradually becoming endangered, and disappearing from the island, and hence, worth of our efforts to preserve it as cultural and artisan assets.

Rex retired as the Vice President of a US-based computer company specialized in data center management solutions. For many years, he worked in different countries of Asia, the UK, Netherland, and Germany and dedicated himself to server management and electrical power optimization.  The choice to leave the technology industry behind and join the family for tea farming was made after a series of self-reflections about the family, the nature environment and the value of life.

We wish all customers would thoroughly enjoy his or her tea time with us.  Please find more interesting information in our blog.
